Can you find farm work without previous experience?
Some Canadian agricultural jobs are entry-level and provide on-the-job training, while other positions require previous experience, licences or specialized skills. Always read the requirements in each vacancy instead of assuming that every farm job is suitable for a beginner.
Entry-level farm jobs to search for
Common search terms include general farm worker, harvesting labourer, farm hand, greenhouse labourer, nursery worker and some livestock labourer positions. Requirements vary by employer.
What employers may still expect
Even when formal experience is not required, employers may look for reliability, physical stamina, willingness to learn, attention to safety and availability for early mornings, weekends or seasonal schedules.
Use the job posting as your source of truth
Check the experience and education sections of each vacancy. If the employer offers training, explain in your application why you are ready to learn the required tasks.
Applicants outside Canada
An entry-level vacancy does not automatically mean the employer accepts applicants from outside Canada. Review eligibility information and use our farm jobs for foreign workers page when searching internationally.
