Start with the type of farm work you want
Canadian agricultural employers recruit for a wide range of roles, including general farm workers, livestock labourers, dairy workers, harvesting labourers, farm machinery operators and farm supervisors. Start by choosing the occupations that match your experience and the kind of work you are prepared to do.
You can browse current opportunities on Canada Farms Jobs by province and occupation. Useful starting points include farm jobs in Ontario, farm jobs in Alberta, farm jobs in Quebec, farm jobs in British Columbia, dairy farm jobs and livestock jobs.
Read every job posting carefully
Before applying, check the job location, wage, number of vacancies, hours of work, education requirements, experience requirements and the employer's application instructions. Do not assume that every Canadian vacancy is open to applicants outside Canada.
Check who can apply
If you are outside Canada, look for the section explaining who can apply. Some employers may consider international candidates, while other employers may require applicants to already have authorization to work in Canada.
Use the farm jobs for foreign workers page to explore listings whose eligibility information indicates that other candidates may apply.
Prepare a simple Canadian-style application
Your application should clearly show your relevant farm experience, machinery skills, animal-care experience, harvesting work, driving qualifications or other agricultural skills. Follow the employer's instructions exactly and use the application method shown in the original vacancy.
Be careful with job and immigration scams
A legitimate job advertisement does not automatically give you a Canadian visa or work permit. Be cautious when someone promises guaranteed immigration, guaranteed LMIA approval or a guaranteed job in exchange for money.
Use job guides together with current vacancies
The strongest strategy is to combine current job listings with reliable information about work authorization. If you are considering employment from outside Canada, continue with our LMIA farm jobs guide and farm worker work permit guide.
