Student Summer Jobs: Eligibility Criteria
- The candidate should have a “student” status. A student can be termed as someone enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (currently or for the fall semester) or has graduated within the past six months.
- The candidate must be a minimum of 15 years of age. Certain positions require the students to be at least 18 years old. Apart from this, there is no maximum age limit for applying to summer student positions.
- The candidate must be living in the province of Ontario during the term of employment.
- The candidate must be entitled to work in Canada. The candidates are required to have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) upon being hired.
Note: The candidates are required to indicate their student status and age in the online application form.
Student Summer Jobs: Application Submission Process
- To apply for the Summer Employment Opportunities Program, the candidate must submit one application for each student job you want to be considered for. There is no limit to the number of SEO jobs you can apply to.
- The candidate needs to visit the Summer Employment Opportunities job board to submit an application.
- The candidate has to select the job type he/she wants to apply for
- The candidate has to complete the application process before deadline
- Lastly with clicking on Click apply! The candidate should then be redirected to the confirmation splash page to confirm their application was successfully received. At that time, the candidate will be provided with a link to complete a brief application survey.
Note: The data collected in the survey helps identify opportunities to improve the program and address potential barriers in the recruitment process. Feedback provided in the survey is anonymous and will help contribute to our efforts to build a more diverse, inclusive, and accessible Ontario Public Service.
Note: The candidate must attach one document with your application. It is recommended to attach a cover letter and resume (maximum of 5 pages in PDF, Microsoft Word, Rich Text (.rtf) or Plain Text (.txt)) as it is a key screening tool used by managers. Student Summer Jobs: Application Submission
- After submission, the candidate gets directed to a “Thank you for applying” page after receipt of his/her submission.
Note: If a contact email is provided in the application, the candidate will also receive a confirmation email (remember to check the junk and/or spam mail folders). Check junk/spam while the complete application process, as email update in regards to application doesn’t get missed out.

Student Summer Jobs: Selection Process (Interview)
- The resume screening time can take around 4 to 12 weeks
Only the shortlisted applicants will be called for the interview - If the applicants are called for interview of multiple positions, they can take all the interviews, yet accept the offer letter of one, also inform the same to other interviewers
Things To Be Kept In Mind For The Interview:
- The candidate should make sure to collect all relevant information you need to know to attend the interview: Virtual/in-person, location/address, date/time, which position/ministry, contact person, etc.
- The candidate should conduct research on the ministry, branch and program.
- The candidate should arrive on time for the interview. The work attire can vary per location, but business-attire is usually considered appropriate for an office job interview
- The candidate should make sure to highlight their individual skills and experience including school, volunteer and work. Think about why you are the best person for the job
Note: The interviews conducted in the OPS are conducted in a formal panel setting.
