Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should be registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR)
Experience: Candidates should have 2 years experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be expected to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical care services provided utilizing the Slaight Centre Integrate Care Pathway
  • The candidates should know that this position is specifically focused on the Individual Resiliency Training component of NAVIGATE
  • The candidates should know that position is located at 1025 Queen Street West, but may require some traveling in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)
  • The candidates should have effective leadership, decision-making, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • The candidates should have a demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of aggressive behaviour
  • The candidates should have ability to work with patients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds, and knowledge of recovery principles

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have sound knowledge of psycho-social rehabilitation, crisis intervention, and addiction issues and knowledge of the recovery model and groups, as well as sound knowledge of severe and persistent mental illness, especially schizophrenia, and knowledge of primary mood disorders with psychosis
  • The candidates should possess or be currently pursuing a B.Sc. N and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing and computer literacy
  • The candidates should have Two years of psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions, and specifically, first episode psychosis
  • The candidates should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable them to develop the Nurse-Patient relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team
  • The candidates should possess strong knowledge of, and ability to apply principles of crisis intervention; and an understanding of psychiatric nursing as appropriate for this patient population

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to liaise with other services across CAMH and with external community agencies, working with patients from diverse populations
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to program development and providing education, support, and supervision to students are key responsibilities and participate in research activities
  • The candidates should be able to engage patients and their significant others in care planning and treatment decisions on an ongoing basis and support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory requirements
  • The candidates should be able to provide patient-centered mental health and general nursing care
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the safety and security of patients and maintain standards of nursing practice as per their professional regulatory body
  • The candidates should be able to deliver standardized, evidence-based treatments, including the delivery of the NAVIGATE Early Intervention Model of Care
  • The candidates should be able to conduct mental status assessments, monitor patient responses to pharmaceutical and care interventions
  • The candidates should be able to document interventions and maintain effective, ongoing communication with clinical team members
