Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience in commerce or related field with a specialization in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three (3) years of experience including recording financial transactions (accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries) using a computerized information system

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience dealing with a large volume of transactions, customer service, and responding to inquiries in a professional manner
  • The candidates should demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy under the pressure of deadlines
  • The candidates should possess a solid understanding of accounting, purchasing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, internal controls, and HST
  • The candidates should have a good understanding of the concepts involved in forecasting and variance analysis, as well as internal recoveries
  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge of financial accounting, management accounting, accounting software applications, and finance & business communications
  • The candidates should have the ability to quickly master system skills, including the ability to quickly gain a good understanding of systems
  • The candidates should have substantial working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is essential, including the ability to consolidate and link multiple spreadsheets and to use advanced functions and formulas
  • The candidates should have the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage deadlines
  • The candidates should exhibit a highly professional approach, use tact, possess superior organizational skills, have the ability to work with minimal error under pressure, demonstrate good judgment, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to deal in an effective and cooperative manner with a variety of people
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to effectively work independently and also collaboratively in a team environment
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate accountability and adapt to various situations and challenges
  • The candidates should be able to effectively communicate with others and handle situations diplomatically
  • The candidates should be able to solve problems efficiently and work well as part of a team

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to prepare and/or process journal entries
  • The candidates should be able to generate standard financial reports and process expense reimbursements
  • The candidates should be able to identify and resolve individual financial discrepancies
  • The candidates should be able to analyze and recommend improvements to financial processes and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to respond to inquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • The candidates should be able to apply the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency, and regulatory requirements
