On October 28, 2026, IRCC announced new monetary penalties for people who provide paid immigration or citizenship advice or representation without authorization, and for certain false or misleading information. The release says penalties can start at $5,000 and increase for repeated or more serious violations, up to $1.5 million combined. These rules concern representatives; applicants do not have to hire one. Before paying for immigration advice, check the Government of Canada’s guidance and verify that a representative is authorized. For job seekers, see our work in Canada guide and farm job listings.
