Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should expect to be classified as a Workcar Operator Trainee for a period of 12 months, during which time the applicable training will be provided; those who successfully complete the classroom and on-the-job training will be classified as a Workcar Operator (Wage Group 7)
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have completed its recognized equivalent as determined by the Operations Training Centre
- The candidates should be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions, as demonstrated by an ability to understand and follow published operating and safety rules and regulations
- The candidates should be able to speak clearly in order to exchange information and instructions with the control centres and follow proper radio and telephone protocol
- The candidates should be able to attend and successfully complete all portions of the training to sustain the trainee status
- The candidates should possess a valid Class G driver’s license from the Province of Ontario and pass a vision test and established pre-test set by the Training and Development Department
- The candidates should be prepared to be fitted with a respirator and understand that upon successful completion of the 12-month Trainee period, up to 6 additional months of experience may be required to become proficient in all aspects of the job
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform daily service checks on the vehicle operated checking cables, hoses, lights, trip cock valves, collector shoes; tightening nuts, greasing, topping up oil and fluids and report servicing or repairs required to supervisors, completing the appropriate forms; ensuring that vehicles are kept in a state of cleanliness both inside and outside
- The candidates should be able to ensure that rail cars are properly coupled or secured during push or pull operations; coupling or uncoupling vehicles
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate behaviors that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment free from discrimination and harassment. They should help to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies
