Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have experience in Power Engineering

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of constantly lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 11 lbs
  • The candidates should be able to regularly handle objects weighing between 11 – 44 lbs
  • The candidates should have the ability to occasionally lift objects over 44 lbs
  • The candidates should regularly engage in physical effort using tools that require accurate control and steadiness
  • The candidates should be capable of maintaining physical balance, standing, walking, climbing, and using gross and fine motor skills
  • The candidates should be able to work in awkward or cramped positions requiring strength and/or endurance
  • The candidates’ work may be impacted by time pressures/deadlines, interruptions, and lack of control over work pace
  • The candidates should be adaptable to changes in priorities and services being interrupted

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid fourth (4th) Class Power Engineer’s Certificate issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador
  • The candidates should possess a Class 5 Driver’s License as a condition of employment
  • The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to operate high-pressure steam plants and auxiliary equipment, including steam boilers, hydronic boilers, air handling units, cooling systems, related system controls, heat exchangers, chillers, medical gas systems, compressed air systems, emergency power systems, uninterruptible power supply systems, and reverse osmosis systems
  • The candidates should be able to perform regular checks and verify the correct operation of safety controls for the described systems
  • The candidates should be able to conduct demand and preventative maintenance on boilers and other equipment/systems as needed, as well as operate various power tools
  • The candidates should be able to calibrate equipment/machinery, record and interpret readings of all plant equipment and various systems, and maintain records
  • The candidates should be able to perform chemical tests on water systems for boilers and other equipment and test emergency power systems
  • The candidates should be able to schedule and prepare for the annual inspection and cleaning of high-pressure steam boilers, hot water tanks, motors, and pumps
  • The candidates should be able to provide training to students and new employees
  • The candidates should be able to work independently on shift and be responsible for the plant and other assigned equipment/systems
