Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Post-secondary degree in Social Services, Criminology or related field
Experience: Candidates should have experience analyzing, reviewing, developing and implementing legislation, regulations, operational policies, and, standards of service delivery in a correctional institutional setting
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
- The candidates should have leadership skills, including the ability to provide leadership and develop consensus among stakeholders on internal and external issues
- The candidates should demonstrate their competence according to the standards set within the Yukon Government Core Competency Framework
- The candidates should maintain integrity and confidentiality in their role and willingness to travel within Yukon and Canada via airplane or vehicle
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have knowledge of correctional legislation, current national and international correctional best practices, as well as human rights legislation and best practices related to corrections
- The candidates should possess experience in managing a large number of employees (20+) in an operationally dynamic environment, covering all areas of human resource management
- The candidates should have experience in managing financial resources, including forecasting, budgeting, contract management, procurement, and financial reporting
- The candidates should have a proven track record of working with internal and external stakeholders and community partners to develop, sustain, and evaluate programs. This includes establishing partnerships with First Nations governments, non-governmental organizations, and private enterprises
- The candidates should have knowledge of public sector budgeting and financial management
- The candidates should have knowledge of effective personnel management and supervisory practices and procedures
- The candidates should have skills in problem-solving, negotiating, influencing others, and conflict resolution are crucial for success in this role
- The candidates should have and maintain a valid Security Clearance including vulnerable sector and a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- The candidates should have the ability to establish effective and cooperative working relationships
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to manage and direct the operations of the Whitehorse Correctional Centre
- The candidates should be able to be responsible for the allocation of human, financial, and material resources to meet the needs of individuals in territorial custody, including police prisoners
- The candidates should be able to value working together as a team within branches and within the department as a whole, respecting respective roles in the administration of justice, and working as one entity to meet the collective objective of serving the public
- The candidates should be able to mindful of the impact of their actions on people around them, both in proximity and in the larger department, and strive to ensure that they maintain the best interests of the department in their approach to their work
