Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of current registration as an RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing
Experience: Candidates should have up to 6 months of experience in general nursing practice
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to effectively manage crisis situations and deal with acutely ill patients
- The candidates should have the ability to work independently and with a multi-disciplinary team
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have experience working with patients with a substance use disorder
- The candidates should have current CPR certification and knowledge of the Mental Health Act (MHA)
- The candidates should have knowledge of documentation standards (CNO) and privacy legislation (PHIPPA)
- The candidates should have knowledge of CBT/DBT and CPT and experience with group facilitation
- The candidates should have current knowledge and experience of assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders, including prevention of suicide and management of aggressive behaviour
- The candidates should have previous training in boundaries, suicide awareness, and/or medication administration
- The candidates should have awareness and acknowledgement of the value of using measurement-based care when supporting patients or clients to help guide clinical decision making experience
- The candidates should have proficient computer skills and experience working with a number of systems and software applications
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide nursing care on units across Homewood Specialized Services and receive patient assignments and follow care plans accordingly
- The candidates should be able to contribute to fluctuating patient care needs according to CNO standards, RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, specific program philosophy, and diversified patient populations
- The candidates should be able to administer psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments
- The candidates should be able to ensure necessary clinical assessments are initiated following admission and at various other times, such as a Mental Status Exam
- The candidates should be able to engage with interdisciplinary teams and individual team members as appropriate
- The candidates should be able to act as a preceptor, mentor, coach, or resource nurse as appropriate
- The candidates should be able to participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient or family conferences
- The candidates should be able to accept changing work assignments across Homewood Specialized Services as required and directed by the supervisor and delegate
