It collect, process, and distribute blood and its products to hospitals efficiently. Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province
Experience: Candidates should have two years of experience working as a nurse
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be available to work one Saturday every 4 weeks (0845-1645)
- The candidates should be willing to travel between Duncan and Campbell River, with a staff bus
- The candidates should attend mandatory paid orientation and training, lasting two and a half weeks, in Vancouver
- The candidates should be prepared for potential travel required for mobile events in communities, with transportation provided by Canadian Blood Services
- The candidates should meet the physical requirement of being able to lift weights up to 10 kg (22 lbs)
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a certification in First Aid and CPR
- The candidates should have previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others
- The candidates should have technical skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to assist in the collection of blood and blood products, ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and carrying out all required documentation
- The candidates should be able to communicate effectively with donors, conducting registration and confidential screening to determine eligibility and building and promoting a positive donor experience
- The candidates should be able to provide donors with information, instruction, and advice on blood donation, utilizing superb people skills
- The candidates should be able to provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as a team lead for collection events
- The candidates should be able to work in a diverse team environment, assisting in the collection of whole blood and apheresis blood components
- The candidates should be able to assist in setting up booths, tables and other equipment at mobile events within communities to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use
