Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s Crisis and Critical Care program offers urgent mental health support, including crisis assessment and brief therapy. As a leader in the field, CAMH provides evidence-based interventions to stabilize individuals in distress, reducing hospitalizations and promoting community-based care nationwide. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate
Experience: Candidates should have psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and addictions

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to provide holistic, client-centered psychiatric nursing care as part of an inter-professional team
  • The candidates should be able to receive support and guidance from the unit leadership team, Advance Practice Clinical Leader, and Manager during their orientation period
  • The candidates should be registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • The candidates should be willing to work 12-hour day, evening, night, and weekend rotations

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with clients, families, and the interdisciplinary team
  • The candidates should demonstrate competency in monitoring, assessment, and documentation for mental health and substance-related disorders, trauma-responsive behaviors, mental status and physical health assessments, and client response to pharmaceutical interventions
  • The candidates should show motivation to develop knowledge and skills of trauma-informed care, culturally competent care, crisis intervention, mental health and addiction diagnoses, and treatment modalities
  • The candidates should demonstrate motivation to develop group facilitation skills
  • The candidates should possess currently pursuing a BSCN and CNA certification in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing
  • The candidates should have effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem-solving skills and Computer literacy

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to work with clients from diverse populations
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to program development within the psychiatric care setting
  • The candidates should be able to participate in reflective practice sessions to enhance their clinical skills and knowledge
  • The candidates should be able to facilitate group programming on the unit to support clients’ therapeutic
  • The candidates should be able to provide mentorship and supervision to students within the psychiatric nursing field
  • The candidates should be able to participate in research activities related to the program to advance evidence-based practice
  • The candidates should be able to focus on developing and refining the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and effective work on an acute general psychiatric unit during unit orientation
  • The candidates should be able to practice safely and in accordance with the Practice Standards outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and Canadian Standards of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (CFMHN)
  • The candidates should be able to find CCC-3 a conducive environment for practicing, learning, and professional growth in psychiatric nursing
