Requirements:

Experience: Candidates should have 8 – 10 years’ experience total including relevant 4 – 5 years of experience leading a team
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should hold a Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation
- The candidates should have considerable knowledge and experience in payroll and accounting principles
- The candidates should have experience with SAP systems or Success Factors Employee Central and have experience in Service Now
- The candidates should possess excellent communication skills in English to effectively communicate with staff, internal and external parties, prepare reports, and interpret the intent of Collective Agreements and company policies
- The candidates should demonstrate excellent time management skills within an environment with competing priorities and deadlines associated with the department operation
- The candidates should have demonstrated experience in providing advice and guidance on general and specific inquiries from employees and supervisors regarding pay-related matters
- The candidates should have demonstrated experience with the use of Word and Excel
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to guide and assist team members with daily activities and projects and manage Payroll calendars & processing schedules for Holidays
- The candidates should be able to oversee mass transactions (mass salary changes, one-time payments) and approve all payroll remittance and posting to the GL
- The candidates should be able to facilitate audits of payroll to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements and able to verify and approve complex calculations and reconciliations of Payroll
- The candidates should be able to oversee payroll audits, validate discrepancies, and sign off on Payroll and analyze data to track the team’s performance against relevant KPIs and SLAs
- The candidates should be able to manage Pay Specialist and Business Applications Analyst and manage the team’s workload and schedules to meet deadlines and achieve high levels of customer service
- The candidates should be able to handle day-to-day people management responsibilities including status updates, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions and coordinate day-to-day activities of Pay Specialists and Business Applications Analyst
- The candidates should be able to provide ongoing coaching and guidance to team members regarding Payroll processes and act as the next level of escalation for complex Payroll inquiries, anomalies, and issues
- The candidates should be able to coordinate and drive system testing (in collaboration with T&A and EDM, HR Tech / IT Sustainment) for the payroll function (SAP Patches, tax updates) and develop and manage written documentation regarding Payroll procedures and processes
- The candidates should be able to assist Pay Specialists to interpret and understand federal and provincial employment legislation and regulations and review/update policies and procedures to ensure compliance and alignment with Payroll and HR strategy
- The candidates should be able to stay up to date on industry trends and evaluate current programs, processes, and practices to recommend solutions that could improve payroll operations and review metrics to determine areas that need to be addressed through employee or manager communications, system or procedural changes to reduce errors and employee complaints
- The candidates should be able to lead implementation of procedural changes as needed to update or simplify administrative processes and procedures
