Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have standard educational qualifications such as a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field
Experience: Candidates should have 10 to 12 years related experience with demonstrated progressive supervisory

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should provide leadership to subordinates to ensure competent collaboration and full commitment in pursuing common goals set out by Construction Services and Hydro One
  • The candidates should demonstrate a strong personal commitment to the customer and CST SRV Objectives
  • The candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to Internal Responsibility system principles and joint problem-solving with employees and their representatives
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to efficiently manage resources within a geographic area
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should exhibit knowledge and capability to monitor and control cost, schedule, safety, quality, and environmental performance
  • The candidates should have extensive practical knowledge of the pertinent safety legislation and Hydro One safety Policies & Procedures
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of the costing system and experience in preparing bid quality estimates, including all relevant cost details
  • The candidates should be competent in the development and use of project schedules, requiring experience in construction management and the supervision of trades involved in the construction of multiple transformation, regulation, switching station projects, generating stations switchyards, Green Energy Line Taps, and 115kV to 500kV wood pole and steel transmission lines/structures
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable about the various Collective Agreements applicable to trades (BTU, CUSW, Labourers, Carpenters, Operating Engineers, etc.), technical (Society & PWU)
  • The candidates should have knowledge of transmission lines and station construction methods necessary to execute construction projections in a safe, efficient manner

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to support the Vice President and Director of Construction in implementing the business unit’s goals/objectives/strategies by providing leadership, direction, and supervision to Construction staff at various Project site locations within a geographic area as assigned by the Vice President of Construction and the Director of Construction Services
  • The candidates should be able to provide construction management and supervision within the construction group, administer construction contracts and accountable for construction costs, schedule, safety, product quality, and environmental performance
  • The candidates should be able to provide input to Project Execution Plans and the associated schedules and estimates and identify areas of deficiencies and promote productivity and process improvement to reduce costs, rework, and increase safety
  • The candidates should be able to organize and coordinate resources to execute the team’s projects and ensure a safe working environment through training and the application of safe work methods and safety procedures and promote the Internal Responsibility Systems (IRS)
  • The candidates should be able to work openly and responsibly with employees and their representatives to maintain a harmonious working environment in accordance with the Collective Agreement and work closely with operating staff to minimize disruption to existing facilities and to ensure that the work of one group does not affect the safety of another
  • The candidates should be able to set the appropriate context for subordinates (such as, corporate strategies and policies, accountabilities, tasks, budget, and Programs, compliance and performance targets, expectations for continuous improvement, etc.)
  • The candidates should be able to set an effective framework of policies and procedures for the work of the construction unit
  • The candidates should be able to know and ensure own and subordinates’ compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and all corporate policies and procedures, and generally accepted practices relating to the work of the unit
  • The candidates should be able to establish a two-way working relationship with subordinates to solicit their views on conditions and potential changes affecting their work and continuous improvement opportunities
