Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should be active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
Experience: Candidates should have minimum 2 years recent (within 2 years) Adult Acute Care experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to lift 40 lbs (18 kg)
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have current (within 12 months) haemodialysis experience
- The candidates should have completed a Physical Assessment, IV Therapy, and Medication Administration course and basic computer skills
- The candidates should complete and pass haemodialysis training, held in Edmonton or Red Deer based on availability for the AKC-N program
- The candidates should know that Haemodialysis orientation will consist of 6 weeks, 4 weeks of on-unit training and 2 weeks of buddy shifts (or equivalent hours)
- The candidates should have a passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during the clinical component to move on to buddy shifts
- The candidates should have a minimum of 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last 2 years
- The candidates should have recent experience in acute and chronic haemodialysis, as well as nephrology nursing
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, with decisions made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
- The candidates should be able to provide patient and family-cantered care to acute and chronic renal failure patient populations as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- The candidates should be able to practice within the guidelines and philosophy of AKC-N, working at their full scope of practice and performing a variety of nursing duties in accordance with current policies and nursing care standards
- The candidates should be able to have the opportunity to work in other city and rural satellite dialysis units within AKC-N
