Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a Canadian college or university
Experience: Candidates should have experience in all areas of the laboratory
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have advanced knowledge of laboratory technologies, principles, and standards of practice, including venipuncture, medical terminology, and the ability to operate and understand complex laboratory instrumentation to provide direct hands-on laboratory services
- The candidates should have the ability to prepare samples and place them into media to encourage growth and the ability to identify growth when present and possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities usually obtained
- The candidates should be certified with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science with a General Certificate in all areas (RT)
- The candidates should understand that this is a highly sensitive position, requiring a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- The candidates should submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut: Inuktut, English, or French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages
- The candidates should have knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to report to the Laboratory Manager and work on delivering Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, Microbiology, Mycobacteriology, and Specimen Receiving or Processing Services
- The candidates should be able to provide Laboratory Services to the Qikiqtani General Hospital, Iqaluit Health agencies, Health Centres located in Nunavut, and the Department of Health
- The candidates should be able to analyze samples and conduct individual patient tests using both complex laboratory instrumentation and manual techniques
- The candidates should be able to recognize normal and atypical findings while performing analysis and initiate the appropriate action
