Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Master’s Degree in Heritage Conservation, Historic Preservation, Architecture, or a related field, or post secondary degree with equivalent work experience
Experience: Candidates should have minimum 3 years experience working in the field of heritage conservation

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be exposed to various hazardous materials, including bat and rodent droppings, dust, and mold
  • The candidates must be willing to travel to remote locations throughout Yukon
  • The candidates should be Willing to work in remote areas up to 14 days in duration, multiple times per year
  • The candidates should be Willing to travel by helicopter, light aircraft, or boat
  • The candidates should be willing to complete required field safety training and follow field safety protocols when working in remote locations

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience preparing detailed documentation of heritage resources and conducting condition assessments of heritage buildings
  • The candidates should have experience working with a variety of construction techniques (both historic and current) and the ability to read and comprehend detailed construction drawings and site plans
  • The candidates should have well-developed knowledge of the principles and practices of heritage conservation and planning and have experience working with AutoCAD
  • The candidates should have the ability to contribute to the development of conservation plans and recommendations for stabilization, conservation, and maintenance of historic places while ensuring compliance with Standards and Guidelines for Conservation of Historic Places in Canada
  • The candidates should have knowledge of relevant territorial and federal legislation, regulations, and programs, including Yukon First Nation Final Agreements, the Historic Resources Act, and the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada
  • The candidates should have the ability to think critically about long and short-term goals while linking them to strategic priorities and have strong interpersonal skills to build and foster collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • The candidates should have a Class 5 Yukon Drivers’ Licence

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure the appropriate conservation of Historic Structures and Sites (Historic Places) as per accepted national and international best practices
  • The candidates should be able to have a strong knowledge of the documentation of historic structures and sites, heritage conservation principles, and a strong working knowledge of applying the Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada, as well as traditional building materials
  • The candidates should be able to have a basic knowledge of construction techniques and architecture
  • The candidates should be able to assist the Government of Yukon in meeting its obligations under the First Nations Final Agreements, the Umbrella Final Agreement, and the Inuvialuit Final Agreement
