Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess the ability to safely operate a variety of tools and equipment related to general maintenance
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team environment, accept and follow verbal and written instructions, and complete duties as assigned to an acceptable standard with minimal supervision

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should follow all City of Brantford Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
  • The candidates should have the skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties listed above
  • The candidates should hold a valid “G2” Ontario Driver’s License in good standing during the course of employment
  • The candidates should ensure they have CSA approved steel-toed boots for this position
  • The candidates should possess a valid First Aid Certificate with level “C” CPR, which is mandatory for this student position and must be submitted with the application
  • The candidates should provide a current Police Information Check (dated within the past 3 months) from their local police service for approval by the Corporation before commencing employment
  • The candidates should be returning to full-time studies in the fall and must show proof of enrollment or a valid student card upon application submission
  • The candidates should note that interviews for this position will commence in February 2024

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to perform general maintenance duties such as facility and parks maintenance, cleaning, painting, litter collection, playground maintenance and sports field and turf maintenance
  • The candidate should be able to conduct tasks related to cemetery, trail, tree and horticulture maintenance
  • The candidate should be able to perform road and sidewalk repair, overland storm and roadside maintenance as part of Operational Services duties
  • The candidate should be able to paint hydrants, perform inspections (using cameras and computers) on assets within each department, work with licensed operators on daily activities, and learn about water, wastewater and storm systems in regards to Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection duties
  • The candidate should be able to handle physically demanding tasks, including heavy lifting and bending
  • The candidate should be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • The candidate should be able to complete all required training
  • The candidate should be able to work flexible hours, including days, afternoons, nights and weekends
