Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a certificate in public fire protection from a program accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and/or ProBoard
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have no more than a 30-decibel hearing loss in either ear, averaging at 500, 1000, and 2000 C.P.S
- The candidates should successfully complete the Fitness York Fire Fighter Applicant Fitness Assessment within the six months prior to the start date
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have NFPA 1001 Fire Fighting Practices Level I certification (IFSAC/Pro Board accredited)
- The candidates should hold NFPA 1001 Fire Fighting Practices Level II certification (IFSAC/Pro Board accredited)
- The candidates should be certified in NFPA 1002 Apparatus Driver / Operator (Pumper) (IFSAC/Pro Board accredited)
- The candidates should preferably have NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Level I certification (IFSAC certified)
- The candidates should preferably hold NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level I certification (IFSAC/Pro Board accredited)
- The candidates should possess either NFPA 472 or NFPA1072 Hazardous Materials (Operation Levels) certification (IFSAC/Pro Board accredited)
- The candidates should be listed as a practicing unrestricted Primary Care Paramedic (2011 National Occupational Competency Profile) on the current members roster of the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics
- The candidates should hold a current International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) BASIC certificate and must meet the current National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard 1582 for vision at the time of application and provide an optometrist’s report
- The candidates should meet the current NFPA standard 1582 for medical conditions at the time of application and provide a medical report completed by a legally qualified medical practitioner
- The candidates should have possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent and have an acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS)
- The candidates should have a current driver’s abstract demonstrating a safe driving record and Successful applicants from another province must produce a valid Saskatchewan Driver’s Licence within 90 days of commencing employment with the department
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to work as a member of a team under the supervision of the Captain to respond to a variety of emergency situations and mitigate emergencies involving fires
- The candidates should be able to respond to pre-hospital emergency medical incidents, dangerous goods incidents, and emergency rescues
- The candidates should be able to perform fire prevention and inspection duties within an assigned area
- The candidates should be able to maintain apparatus used in emergency response
- The candidates should be able to participate in the required training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge
- The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as assigned
