Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should possess 4-year degree in Business, Education, Social Science, Psychology, or a related field
Experience: Candidates should have a 5 years of progressive experience in an educational environment, or a combination of educational and social services environments

  • The candidates should have a keen understanding of holistic student development and be well-versed in the unique philosophies and theories that inform advising practice in higher education. They should demonstrate the ability to apply these frameworks to complex and sensitive advising encounters while exercising sound judgment, discretion, and maintaining a high degree of confidentiality
  • The candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for the candidates, along with effective listening, probing, and assessment skills
  • The candidates should be committed to the principles of empowerment, integration, and inclusion. They should be student/client-centered individuals with a passion for facilitating student success and enhancing the student experience
  • The candidates should Enjoy working with diverse populations is a necessary quality for the candidates. They should be able to apply principles of inclusivity and inter-cultural competence and be committed to centering equity, diversity, and inclusion to meet the needs of a diverse student population
  • The candidates should possess excellent statistical and analytical skills, as well as highly developed program development experience. Additionally, they should demonstrate facilitation, presentation, and outreach skills
  • The candidates should have experience in creating and delivering training programs, demonstrating the ability to prepare and present to groups for developmental purposes
  • They should be adept at assessing and advising clients on complex issues, showcasing proficiency in providing guidance and support in challenging situations
  • The candidates should possess skills in collecting, recording, analyzing, and presenting data and research findings. They should be capable of drafting documentation for decision-making purposes
  • The candidates should possess experience in project management/coordination is a requirement for the candidates. Equivalency in related experience will also be considered

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide developmental and academic advising support for students in designated programs within a Faculty
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate indirect accountability to the Associate Dean of the programs they oversee, requiring in-depth knowledge of the academic requirements and institutional aspects
  • The candidates should be able to utilize a high level of institutional knowledge, encompassing academic and student experience/support familiarity
  • The candidates should be able to play a significant role in the development of students, understanding their needs, skills, attitudes, beliefs, strengths, and values
  • The candidates should be able to work collaboratively with students to develop meaningful academic goals and improve their academic progress through the program
  • The candidates should be able to provide advisement for students who are unclear about their next steps in any aspect of their Sheridan experience
  • The candidates should be able to exercise a high degree of autonomy, discretion, and judgment to evaluate and recommend the best course of action on student matters and interactions
  • The candidates should be able to understand the issues impacting student academic, personal, and social adjustment to postsecondary education
  • The candidates should be able to lead the research, planning, development, and delivery of various programs related to transition and student persistence
  • The candidates should be able to conduct ongoing evaluations of program components to measure their impact on students’ academic adjustment and experience within Sheridan, informing both Student Advisement and the Faculty/School for future planning
  • The candidates should be able to act as the primary point of contact for students, addressing questions, concerns, or issues related to all aspects of the student experience/lifecycle
  • The candidates should be able to advise students on both academic (e.g., course selection, academic requirements, group work issues) and non-academic (e.g., struggling to make friends, navigating stress, career uncertainty) matters
  • The candidates should be able to work collaboratively with students to clarify career paths and academic goals, developing individual academic plans and identifying resources and strategies to address barriers hindering their academic success
  • The candidates should be able to follow up regularly with students to check on their progress, provide ongoing support, and review any necessary next steps
  • The candidates should be able to monitor students’ progress, identifying issues and reaching out to those who require additional support
  • The candidates should be able to maintain accurate and comprehensive information related to the assigned program, including requirements, program values, policies, and industry standards
  • The candidates should be able to maintain case records of all student interactions in the CRM database to track the student journey and mitigate risks
  • The candidates should be able to lead the research, development, and delivery of student success, transition, and retention initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with key stakeholders, such as the First Year Transition team, to ensure comprehensive programming focusing on the first-year experience
  • The candidates should be able to intentionally integrate programming for specific student populations (e.g., international students, transfer students) for a seamless student experience
  • The candidates should be able to evaluate initiatives based on outcomes and metrics, providing recommendations and direction to the Faculty/School and campus partners for continuous improvement
  • The candidates should be able to hire and supervise student leaders to support initiatives in planning and implementation, providing leadership in onboarding, mentorship, and performance support
  • The candidates should be able to serve as a resource to the Faculty, providing advice and consultation on student cases to senior administrative leaders, including the Associate Dean, staff administrators, and individual faculty members
  • The candidates should be able to analyze CRM data to identify trends and flag areas of concern for action or intervention, providing options, recommendations, and evidence-backed solutions to the Manager and Associate Dean(s)
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as assigned
