Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a recognized Diploma in Early Childhood Education
Experience: Candidates should have three (3) years of applicable administrative or early childhood education experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should complete First Aid, Infant/child CPR training, which would be required during the probationary period
  • The candidates should possess a degree in Early Childhood Education or in Education with a focus on early childhood development
  • The candidates should acknowledge that this is a Highly Sensitive Position, requiring a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check
  • The candidates should have fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for the territory-wide delivery of early childhood programs and services targeting children from birth to age six, and children up to 12 years of age in licensed out-of-school programs
  • The candidates should be able to oversee the quality of care for children by inspecting, licensing, and providing support and guidance to early childhood programs as part of a continuum of integrated early childhood programs and services across Nunavut
  • The candidates should be able to support the Manager, Early Childhood Development to identify opportunities for increasing the availability and affordability of childcare across Nunavut and able to work with stakeholders, partners, and clients to identify opportunities to increase the availability and affordability of childcare in Nunavut
  • The candidates should be able to actively promote awareness of early childhood issues within communities; support community-based non-profit organizations to plan, develop, and deliver quality/culturally appropriate early childhood education and care programs; and encourage the parents of young students to continue working towards their high school diploma
  • The candidates should be able to actively promote the concept of families as strong places for early childhood development and the development of language, culture, values, and beliefs through programs such as the Early Childhood, Healthy Children Initiatives (HCI), and Young Parents Stay Learning (YPSL) programs, ensuring facilities and programs meet the required standards as defined through Nunavut’s Child Day Care Act
  • The candidates should be able to conduct early childhood facility inspections, including review of registration documents, policies, and records and able to investigate complaints about facilities and programs and take action as required, liaising with the applicable agencies on standards of operation

  • The candidates will get Northern Allowance $ 22,042.00 per year
