Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Department of Mechanical Locomotives based in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Diesel service attendant. The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Department of Mechanical Locomotives is responsible for the maintenance and operation of locomotives within the CPKC rail network. They oversee the upkeep, repairs, and improvements to locomotive equipment, ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of goods and passengers across North America. This department plays a vital role in keeping the locomotives in optimal condition for seamless rail operations. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have High school diploma or GED
Experience: Candidates should have previous mechanical experience and knowledge of rolling equipment preferred
Security and safety: Criminal history check, driver’s license verification, and education verification

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should preferably have a Commercial driver’s license (Class 1A or 3A)
  • The candidates should be willing to obtain and maintain a commercial driver’s license to operate a fuel/servicing truck
  • The candidates should be capable of working any of three shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • The candidates should be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • The candidates should have the ability to wear safety equipment and work in an environment with grease, oil, and cleaning agents

  • The candidates should be aware of CPKC’s Alcohol and Drug Policy and Procedures (“Policy and Procedures”) and support these commitments
  • The candidates should know that all new hires for safety-sensitive positions should be prepared to complete a pre-employment medical assessment that includes a physical, vision, hearing, alcohol, and drug audit assessment
  • The candidates should also  expect Pre-employment qualification drug tests  as part of the hiring process

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to fuel, sand, clean yard and road locomotives, locomotive cabs, re-supply cab amenities, test, clean, and recharge locomotive toilets and toilet rooms
  • The candidates should be able to perform inspections on Yard and Road Locomotive trucks, fuel tanks, brake adjusters, MU cables, cab equipment, spark arrestors inspect, change-out, and perform minor repairs, replace Yard and Road Locomotive components
  • The candidates should be able to adjust and change any necessary safety components, such as brakes, hoses, light bulbs, headlamps, seats, armrests, sun visors, bell cartridges, water pressure caps, windshield wipers, wiper motors, side view mirrors, radios, CDUs, Locator radios, sand hoses, sand nozzles, brake travel, and change brake shoes, fire extinguishers as required
  • The candidates should be able to inspect and top-up all fluid levels, including oil, water, governor oil, and air compressor oil and take oil samples
  • The candidates should be able to test all cab electrical devices, set up cab brakes as per the requirements of train operations, test all safety devices, test brakes and loading, including Locator qualification, and ensure the Crew to crew form is filled out
  • The candidates should be able to perform low-voltage electrical work, pre-departure safety inspections and run-throughs within terminals of Type “D” and affect minor repairs
  • The candidates should be able to obtain/maintain Shop Track Operations Curriculum (STOC) and Locomotive Safety Inspection (LSI) certification
