Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience in litigating for government
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada
- The candidates should be a member (in good standing) or eligible for immediate membership with The Law Society of Manitoba

Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have extensive experience practicing civil litigation or corporate commercial law in a common law jurisdiction, or significant experience advising clients with respect to aboriginal, indigenous law, experience advising clients in the public sector and with construction law and financial transactions
- The candidates should possess the ability to develop strategy and provide legal advice and make recommendations regarding complex files
- The candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical skills, including the ability to recognize and assess legal implications and policy options
- The candidates should exhibit excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work in a high-pressure and time-sensitive environment to meet conflicting deadlines
- The candidates should demonstrate superior written communication skills, including experience drafting agreements and legal opinions
- The candidates should possess strong verbal communication and presentation skills
- The candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain strong and positive working relationships, including with co-workers, clients, and external interests
- The candidates should have experience leading or participating in negotiations
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to participate in strategic discussions with clients
- The candidates should be able to lead or participate in negotiations with third parties
- The candidates should be able to draft agreements and other documents, and provide support in contract interpretation and administration
- The candidates should be able to conduct legal research and analysis of legal problems and prepare legal opinions
- The candidates should be able to prepare pleadings, appear in all levels of court and before administrative tribunals
- The candidates should be able to provide legal advice and assistance to client Departments
- The candidates should be able to conduct or participate in education and training opportunities for clients and colleagues
- The candidates should be able to provide assistance to other counsel in the Legal Services Branch
