Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a recognized certification program in building services work
Experience: Candidates should have experience performing a variety of routine manual tasks in care, cleaning and general maintenance of buildings

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work effectively with a team
  • The candidates should be capable of working independently as needed to support the group effort
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to arrange an effective work schedule under minimal direct instruction
  • The candidates should have good health and strength sufficient to perform a variety of routine manual tasks in care, cleaning and general maintenance of buildings

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience operating and using janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies
  • The candidates should possess a working knowledge of materials, tools, methods, safety practices and equipment used in janitorial and maintenance work
  • The candidates should have knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules, regulations and an understanding of utilizing WHMIS –MSDS
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable about the qualities and uses of various cleaning, sanitizing, stripping and waxing compounds
  • The candidates should have basic knowledge of cleaning products and correct applications
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures
  • The candidates should be capable of prioritizing multiple tasks effectively
  • The candidates should have the ability to explain and demonstrate instructions and guidelines to others effectively
  • The candidates should possess a current and valid BC Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record, where applicable
  • The candidates should successfully pass a Police Record Check or Enhanced Reliability Check

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to clean various spaces offices, meeting rooms, common areas, bathrooms, kitchens, change rooms, steam rooms, gymnasiums, preschools
  • The candidates should be able to maintain floors mopping, washing, waxing, buffing floors vacuuming carpeted areas, hygiene washing, sanitizing drinking fountains, sinks, counters refilling soap dispensers, restocking supplies, fixtures dusting furniture, fixtures replacing light bulbs, fluorescent tubes
  • The candidates should be able to clean windows and glass mirrors, windows, window coverings, glass surfaces, ceiling tiles, tightening loose door knobs, addressing plumbing issues
  • The candidates should be able to perform exterior maintenance cleaning public entrances, exits, exterior grounds, parking lots, stairways, security duties opening, locking doors during operating hours checking for hazards, reporting maintenance needs and damages to supervisor
  • The candidates should be able to manage waste emptying waste baskets, garbage cans, recycling bins emptying zero waste stations, storage, maintenance keeping cleaning equipment, materials, supplies in safe and orderly storage
  • The candidates should be able to remove snow and ice clearing sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, washrooms cleaning washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers and fixtures
  • The candidates should be able to set up events arranging tables, chairs for events, meetings, chemicals, equipment following procedures for chemical cleaners, power equipment to prevent damage
  • The candidates should be able to report safety, maintenance issues checking emergency lights, fire extinguishers reporting findings providing information for work orders
  • The candidates should be able to adhere to safety protocols following safety methods, procedures departmental processes, corporate policies, deep cleaning tasks stripping, waxing, buffing floors carpet cleaning, power washing high and low dusting cleaning blinds
