Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of CAA Operations Level 1 certification
Experience: Candidates should have avalanche control experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have a positive attitude and a team player
- The candidates should not have any physical limitations that may restrict difficult mountain travel
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to listen carefully and communicate clearly while speaking and writing and n advanced to expert skier, an active CAA member
- The candidates should have current WorkSafeBC Blasting Certification (Hand Charging with Safety Fuse; Helicopter) and a high school diploma or equivalent College or University degree
- The candidates should have experience working with ski patrol and backcountry ski experience and NUEC Level 3 First Aid with advanced protocols
- The candidates should have computer experience including MS Office (CAA InfoEx platform and Snowpro+ are assets) and current with applicable WorkSafeBC regulations, safety-oriented mindset
- The candidates should be current with CAA standards outlined in the Operational Recording Guidelines and Standards for Avalanche Professionals (OGRS) and current with the Explosives Act
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide supervision and direction for all workers and guests in and around avalanche terrain and provide a daily avalanche hazard assessment and forecast and oversee the avalanche control program resort-wide
- The candidates should be able to ensure that avalanche risk within all open terrain is within operational thresholds and that terrain with elevated risk is closed to the public and provide training and mentorship to employees
- The candidates should be able to provide information to guests and the public regarding avalanche risk management and ensure accurate and timely weather observations are recorded
- The candidates should be able to ensure that adequate snowpack observations are recorded and periodically review and update the panorama emergency response plan as it relates to avalanche involvements
- The candidates should be able to investigate any near misses or incidents involving guests or staff and report to the program manager and ensure that information regarding closures and terrain restrictions is communicated to all relevant staff and the public
- The candidates should be able to ensure that accurate data is recorded locally and reported on the InfoEx and ensure that accurate weather data is conveyed to media and other departments
- The candidates should be able to ensure records are kept for daily meetings, near misses, incidents, training, blasting, explosives inventory and oversee, direct, or participate in any rescue or search operations conducted in avalanche terrain
- The candidates should be able to gather snowpack observations, take daily weather observations and assist the manager with Avalanche Safety Plan revisions, business, and budget planning
- The candidates should be able to lead avalanche control teams and participate in twice-daily meetings where avalanche forecasts and assessments are produced
- The candidates should be able to provide first aid to injured workers or guests and oversee the operations of any rope rescue operations on site and assist with dispatch and other patrol-related duties and assist with other departments
