Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should possess a master’s degree in Art, Art History, Museum/Curatorial Studies, Cultural Studies, or other related fields
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of curatorial experience with art and culture collections and exhibits, preferably in a university or public art gallery or museum, or as an independent curator

  • The candidates should possess creative problem-solving skills, allowing them to approach challenges in innovative and imaginative ways

  • The candidates should possess an understanding of public engagement is crucial, and the candidates should possess the ability to foster appreciation and understanding of art through exhibits
  • The candidates should have experience with multiple social media platforms, proficiency in MS Office, and familiarity with database/content management systems are required skills for the candidates

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with Sheridan stakeholders to develop creative activities and special projects
  • The candidates should be able to develop strategic partnerships with external groups to publicly promote the profile of the Galleries
  • The candidates should be able to take responsibility for the conception, organization, and ongoing production of exhibits and programming in the Galleries
  • The candidates should be able to assist with the development of contracts in the interest of Sheridan Galleries
  • The candidates should be able to conduct research, write, and oversee the production of related publications (e.g., brochures, guides, catalogues)
  • The candidates should be able to arrange fine art transportation services to ship exhibitions to/from Sheridan and manage insurance coverage when applicable
  • The candidates should be able to support the strategy to build Sheridan’s collection, including acquisition, documentation, preservation, exhibition, transportation, storage, and interpretation
  • The candidates should be able to cultivate prospective donors and art dealers. Additionally, working with Advancement to monitor and manage the stewardship needs of donors is essential
  • The candidates should be able to process gifts of art to the collection, including cataloguing and arranging photography of art for appraisal. Commissioning external appraisals may also be part of the responsibilities
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the planning, development, writing, evaluation, and maintenance of a variety of publications, marketing initiatives, media, and social networking delivery methods to support outreach, fund-raising, and promotional activities, as well as to increase the involvement and engagement of students and other stakeholders is required
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with Advancement, Digital, and Brand Strategy teams regarding publicity, including writing media releases, preparing advertisement and invitation copy, and contributing to social media presence
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with the Canadian arts community and cultural groups, including other art galleries and cultural organizations, funding bodies, arts services organizations, and media
  • The candidates should be able to establish connections with the Professional Art Dealers’ Association of Canada and the Federal Cultural Property Review Committee. This includes interactions related to appraisals, acquisitions, and those wishing to use Sheridan as an exhibiting venue
  • The candidates should be able to establish and maintain these connections
  • The candidates should be able to oversee part-time students and allocate tasks accordingly, ensuring that work is properly completed
  • The candidates should be able to perform other duties as assigned is also part of the role
