Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have 4-year Bachelor’s Degree (finance, business, commerce, economics, mathematics), plus current enrolment or eligibility for enrolment in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP)
Experience: Candidates should have 3 years of related experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be have  knowledge about budgeting, financial, and
    management accounting practices/principles, financial/systems analysis; and business/economic/mathematic principles
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable about and able to comply with policies, procedures, tax regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles
  • The candidates should possess communication skills to interact with and collect information from Finance staff and clients; communicate with agencies, Ministries, and other municipalities to exchange information and resolve problems; explain and interpret technical/financial information so it is understandable to varied audiences; review and explain information on budgets/financial analyses; and participate as an effective team member
  • The candidates should have analytical, organizational, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills to organize workload, meet priorities, and provide/respond to ad hoc requests for information
  • The candidates should have computer skills with the ability to use software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, financial systems, and corporate systems and databases
  • The candidates should have the ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to participate in accounting and year-end financial reviews, contributing to the accuracy and completeness of financial statements and reports
  • The candidates should be able to assist in the systems review of financial modules such as the general ledger, accounts payable, and assets, ensuring functionality and compliance with organizational standards
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the implementation of financial systems, providing support and input to ensure successful integration and operation
  • The candidates should be able to prepare reports and submissions for Regional, Provincial, and Federal requirements, adhering to regulatory standards and deadlines
  • The candidates should be able to analyze financial data and trends, identifying areas for improvement and making recommendations to enhance financial processes and controls
  • The candidates should be able to participate in monthly corporate accounting and year-end financial reviews, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations, and prepare reports and submissions for Regional, Provincial, and Federal requirements
  • The candidates should be able to post financial data into the financial system, reconcile discrepancies, and investigate and resolve any issues promptly
  • The candidates should be able to assist in the preparation of operating and capital budgets for client program areas, including budget analyses and projections
  • The candidates should be able to reconcile corporate asset accounts monthly, ensuring accurate financial reporting
  • The candidates should be able to assist in the preparation of the monthly HST return, complying with tax regulations
  • The candidates should be able to assist in activities related to the year-end, including preparing reports, responding to auditor inquiries, and preparing annual financial statements
  • The candidates should be able to generate reports to monitor actual expenditures and revenues against approved budgets, assisting in identifying variances and forecasting future financial trends
  • The candidates should be able to assist in coordinating activities related to the year-end audit, preparing reports for external auditors, and responding to inquiries
  • The candidates should be able to assist IT in implementing fixes, updates, and upgrades in financial systems, and participate in project teams for systems development and enhancement
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a database of Regional financial statements and information, ensuring accessibility and accuracy
  • The candidates should be able to participate in special projects to investigate and recommend efficiencies, reviewing and documenting workflows to improve processes
  • The candidates should be able to calculate and apply the Region’s monthly tax refund to out-of-province financial transactions, ensuring compliance with tax regulations
  • The candidates should be able to prepare and submit various reports to Statistics Canada and tax returns, demonstrating accuracy and timeliness
  • The candidates should be able to perform related duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to support various financial tasks as needed
