What Is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program?
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is Alberta’s official provincial immigration stream focused on nominating eligible applicants for Canadian permanent residency based on local labor market needs.
Being nominated by Alberta can give your profile a huge advantage because it dramatically increases your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.
🧭 Main Streams Covered in the Program
While the video explains several aspects of AAIP, here are the essential streams that candidates often consider:
🔹 1. Alberta Express Entry Stream
This stream is for Express Entry candidates whose profiles show they can contribute to Alberta’s workforce. If Alberta selects you, you get a Provincial Nomination — adding 600 points to your Express Entry score, essentially guaranteeing an ITA for permanent residence.
🔹 2. Alberta Opportunity Stream
Designed for foreign workers already living and working in Alberta, this route allows individuals with valid work experience and language ability to apply for provincial nomination even without Express Entry.
🔹 3. Other Targeted Streams
Alberta may also open specific streams from time to time, focusing on sectors or job markets that are experiencing shortages. These streams help the province attract talent in key industries that support economic growth.
📈 Why AAIP Is Popular
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program is widely seen as an attractive option because
- Provincial nomination results in a massive CRS boost in Express Entry.
- Alberta prioritizes candidates who match local labor market needs.
- It supports both skilled workers and those with employer support.
- Applicants don’t always require a job offer to qualify (depending on the stream).
