Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of high school supplemented by courses related to the work
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should provide a Commercial Driving Records Abstract (N Print) for the past 5 years (no more than 30 days prior to this posting)
  • The candidates should provide Insurance and Claims History for the past 5 years (no more than 30 days prior to this posting)
  • The candidates should be experienced in the use of compactors and a variety of power tools, such as con saws, drills, pneumatic jackhammers, plate tampers, power snakes, reciprocating saws, trash pumps, generators, compressors, HILTI drills, and chain saws
  • The candidates should have considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and materials used in full-depth excavation repair in asphalt maintenance on driveways, pathways, crossings, roadways, tennis courts, water parks, and related hard surfaces, and perform the work to Branch standards
  • The candidates should have the ability to exercise considerable independence of judgment and initiate action for the work and should be able to courteously answer questions and deal with the public
  • The candidates should have the ability to follow written (blueprints, word orders, and sketches) as well as verbal instructions and maintain accurate records
  • The candidates should hold a current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or higher and a Satisfactory National Safety Code driving record
  • The candidates should have 5 years accumulation of no more than 9 points, not in excess of 3 points per single year
  • The candidates should have 3 years accumulation of no more than 1 preventable work-related driving or equipment operating accident in any single year

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform skilled and semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks, specializing in asphalt and drainage, with heavy physical effort and potential exposure to hazardous conditions
  • The candidates should be able to adhere to established work and safety standards, working under close direction, guidance, and supervision depending on the complexity of the tasks
  • The candidates should be able to handle complex construction and maintenance work, including grading, prepping base and sub-base, asphalt laydown, installing catch basins, manholes, risers, drain lines, rough carpentry, and concrete repair work
  • The candidates should be able to perform regular maintenance on storm/drainage systems, including cleaning catch basins, flushing, and rodding drain lines
  • The candidates should be able to support crew members and operate a standard truck, including loading, unloading, and driving responsibilities
