Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a four-year accredited program specializing in the field of Athletic Therapy
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years’ experience post-graduation in a variety of athletic therapy settings
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have a proven ability to elicit and foster trust, develop positive working relationships, and work effectively with other allied health professionals
- The candidates should have the ability to exercise discretion, good judgment, and solid decision-making
- The candidates should handle short periods of low-effort activities such as computer work, reading medical documents, journals, and rehabilitation protocols, as well as 2-4 hours of moderate physical effort for activities like taping, lighter manual therapy techniques, standing during assessments, and interactions with athletes and staff
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have strong interpersonal skills to interact with administration at various levels, other professionals, and the general public
- The candidates should have a high degree of independence, allowing them to develop flexibly, quickly, and appropriately
- The candidates should possess strong organizational skills and time management abilities, essential for being result-oriented and assuming responsibility for project or initiative development, implementation and completion
- The candidates should be able to perform repeated manual therapy techniques, exercise demonstrations, and provide practice and game coverage
- The candidates should have a completion of a four-year Honor’s degree from a university, plus three years of post-secondary education of an accredited program specializing in the field of Athletic Therapy
- The candidates should have current Certification of Competence from the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association (CATA)
- The candidates should maintain a valid Basic Life Support certificate and First Responder Certificate with two years in a similar type of athletic therapy setting or the equivalent
- The candidates should possess skills in injury assessment and rehabilitation, injury prevention and care, and counseling skills when dealing with injuries and maintained experience in emergency techniques
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to share the responsibility for the care and safety through prevention, immediate care, and rehabilitation of all injuries and illnesses sustained by student-athletes competing for Carleton University Athletics
- The candidates should be able to work primarily in a clinic setting with intermittent game day and practice coverage
- The candidates should be able to work alongside part-time therapy staff, students, and other allied health professionals to assist in the coverage of practices, games, and clinical treatments throughout the year
