Requirements:

Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada and ability to work independently and take initiative
- The candidates should possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence and be able to upgrade to a Class 3 licence with air brake endorsement within six months and work extended hours and periods of time, and travel throughout Manitoba for up to two weeks at a time
- The candidates should be able to become certified in the following pieces of Core Heavy Duty Equipment: 5-ton Tandem Truck, plus two of the following: Forklift, Skid Steer, or Under Bridge Crane (training provided)
- The candidates should be physically capable of performing the duties and responsibilities of the position, including operating hand/power tools, operating heavy-duty maintenance equipment, bending, carrying or twisting, lifting up to 75 pounds, and able to wear personal protective equipment
- The candidates should be able to work in all weather environments, including extreme temperatures in both winter and summer, and around job site hazards, including construction equipment, rough terrain, roadway traffic, loud noises, dust, insects, vegetation, and chemicals and fumes
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have experience performing manual or physical labour related to highway, bridge, and roadway construction and maintenance or other equivalent construction experience
- The candidates should have effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team
- The candidates should have the ability to understand and follow instructions (oral and written)
- The candidates should have knowledge and understanding of Occupational Safety, Health, and Risk Management
- The candidates should have carpentry experience and effective verbal communication skills
- The candidates should have experience working with concrete forming, mixing, placing and finishing
- The candidates should have metal fabrication and welding experience and experience operating light and heavy-duty equipment
- The candidates should have experience related to highway, bridge, roadway construction and maintenance or other equivalent construction experience
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to work with the Bridge Maintenance Crews as part of a 5 to 10 person crew performing bridge maintenance throughout Manitoba
- The candidates should be able to perform physical labor, operate light and heavy-duty equipment (as trained by the department)
- The candidates should be able to use hand and power tools and operate gas-powered equipment
- The candidates should be able to remove concrete using jackhammers, chipping guns, and concrete saws, mix, pour, place, and finish concrete, and place asphalt
- The candidates should be able to repair timber bridges and replace timber bridge components, build and dismantle modular bridges (Acrow and Mechano)
- The candidates should be able to erect traffic control devices and provide traffic control and drive 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton, and 5 ton trucks, and haul materials using vehicles and trailers
- The candidates should be able to perform pre and post-trip vehicle inspections, and fill out mileage log books
- The candidates should be able to use carpentry skills to build forms and other items needed on work sites and follow maps to work site locations
