Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Experience: Candidates should have previous playground experience
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a current and valid First Aid and CPR-C Certification, with only emergency or standard first aid being accepted and CPR-C being mandatory and have a current and valid Food Safe certification, with a Class 4 driver’s license being an asset
- The candidates should demonstrate strong knowledge of age-appropriate activities (games and crafts) for children ages 2-12 years through considerable experience working with children of varying ages
- The candidates should have a strong understanding of child behavior, needs, and interests and possess strong communication, interpersonal skills, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- The candidates should be able to assist in the planning and execution of special events, demonstrated by experience with special events and working knowledge of the principles and objectives of harm reduction, trauma informed practice, and deconolization
- The candidates should be capable of leading groups and providing basic instructions in various activities using strong leadership skills
- The candidates should have the ability to respond to emergency situations appropriately and perform first aid as required
- The candidates should be able to recognize the hazards involved in working alone and/or off-site and take necessary precautionary measures
- The candidates should have knowledge, understanding, and experience with wading pool chemistry and proper pool testing procedures
- The candidates should possess some knowledge of the principles and objectives of harm reduction, trauma-informed practice, and decolonization
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to plan and lead children in social, recreational arts, sports, games, and special events activities while ensuring that all activities meet the MARS safety standards
- The candidates should be able to provide direction and supervise volunteers and perform marketing, promotion, and outreach activities for all Playground activities, including preparing detailed monthly calendars, managing a supplies budget, and identifying supplies and equipment required for the programs
- The candidates should be able to answer any questions and concerns from parents and/or members of the public and respond to first aid needs and/or incidents as required
- The candidates should be able to perform basic administrative tasks and reports as required
- The candidates should be able to operate, supervise, and maintain the park wading pool and/or Spray Park at several local neighborhood parks across the City
