Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an undergraduate degree, example: Bachelor of Social Work, (Cases for Equivalency will be considered)
Experience: Candidates should have 3 to 5 years experience working in a supportive housing setting in a direct service setting with children, youth and adults who experience impacts of poverty, homelessness/under-housing, violence/trauma, mental health/addictions/ or concurrent disorders
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be experienced in cultivating leadership within groups and developing dynamic and innovative programming
- The candidates should be proficient in supportive counseling and have a flexible, client-centered, and strengths-based approach to group work
- The candidates should possess a Life Skills certificate, which would be considered an asset
- The candidates should have skills in arts-based activities and social media, which would be considered assets
- The candidates should have a working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act, Housing Services Act, and Ontario Human Rights Code
- The candidates should demonstrate excellent crisis intervention and conflict mediation skills, maintaining composure during crises
- The candidates should have proven experience working independently and facilitating groups effectively
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to deliver culturally sensitive services
- The candidates should possess very good knowledge and understanding of community resources
- The candidates should be familiar with Windows and Excel programs
- The candidates should exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills
- The candidates should have the ability to work within an anti-oppression and feminist framework
- The candidates having knowledge of a second language or culture would be considered an asset
- The candidates possessing a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle would be considered an asset
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to work in collaboration with tenants to develop and implement community development initiatives, with the goal of creating a dynamic and inclusive community, engagement with the broader community, and effective strategies to meet the emotional, practical, and social support needs of the tenant community
- The candidates should work with the Manager and the team to ensure that community development activities are integrated into the overall program delivery
- The candidates should provide leadership in the development and facilitation of initiatives to support the community to generate individual and community solutions to address their needs
- The candidates should be able to work with the Manager and participate in the team as a specialist in the area of innovative community development and capacity building with marginalized and mixed communities
- The candidates should be able to develop, implement, evaluate, and facilitate workshops, groups, and individual supports that address tenant mental health, addictions, and woman abuse issues, with specialized attention to peer support needs
- The candidates should be able to assume a lead role in the implementation of initiatives to address the needs of the community, including strategies to creatively support the growth of core community structures (e.g., tenant meetings, learning circles, etc.)
- The candidates should be able to support the tenant community to use community resources effectively
- The candidates should be able to assist tenants to assume and maintain their tenancy obligations
- The candidates should be able to provide crisis prevention, intervention, and counseling for women and children to respond to crises in ways that support individual and community well-being
- The candidates should be able to assist tenants to problem solve and access relevant community supports
- The candidates should be able to maintain a working knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act, Housing Services Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, and Rent Geared to Income calculations
- The candidates should be able to assist in the preparation of legal documentation and may be required to attend Landlord Tenant Board hearings
- The candidates should be able to share on-call duties for all permanent housing sites
