Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language

Experience: Candidates should have Significant and past five years experience effectively de-escalating difficult situations within an enforcement or mental health environment
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to carry, use, and maintain CBSA-issued defensive equipment, including a duty firearm, oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray, and a baton in accordance with the CBSA’s policies and directives
- The candidates should meet and maintain medical, behavioral, psychological, and physical requirements and recertify in the use and maintenance of the duty firearm and defensive equipment
- The candidates should be willing to wear and maintain a uniform as per the CBSA Uniform Policy and Standards of Appearance
- The candidates should be prepared to work overtime as required and should be willing to work a 24/7 rotational shift schedule or work various shifts on rotation, weekends, as well as statutory holiday
- The candidates should successfully complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) as required
- The candidates should be willing to travel within Canada, Continental USA, and/or internationally as requested
- The candidates should be able to operate a government vehicle and willing to accept deployments anywhere in Canada
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in one of the following areas: social work, behavioral science, social services work, mental health, addictions, psychoeducation; or in a field related to the duties of the position
- The candidates should have a diploma from a post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in one of the mentioned areas or in a field related to the duties of the position. The candidates should have experience working in a border services, correctional, policing, security, military, or emergency response environment
- The candidates should have experience interpreting, administering, and/or enforcing the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and experience working with ethnocultural communities or organizations
- The candidates should have experience working with people who experience mental health issues, behaviors, or crisis and have experience working with vulnerable people in a work or volunteer environment (homeless, long-term care, people in conflict with the law)
- The candidates should have experience in crisis negotiations or mediation. They should be able to carry and use a cellular phone and/or other mobile communication devices and be available after hours on a call-back or stand-by basis, as required
- The candidates should possess and maintain a valid unrestricted driver’s license that allows the holder to drive a motor vehicle in Canada and obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance as per CBSA Security Standards
- The candidates should possess and maintain a valid Standard First Aid Certificate from a qualified provider approved by any province or territory in Canada, as defined in Part XVI of the Canada Occupational Health & Safety Regulations
- The candidates should possess a valid Passport and obtain and maintain a Transportation Security Clearance as required
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to actively manage detainee files and able to complete transports of detainees by land or air, as required
- The candidates should be able to ensure static and dynamic security of the detention facility and able to maintain care, control, and well-being of the detainee population
- The candidates should be able to diffuse situations through de-escalation techniques and use force as needed for conflict intervention and able to make detention and/or release decisions, and/or execute authorized releases
- The candidates should be able to conduct risk assessments and make recommendations on detention placement and able to respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests from detained clients or related to contracted employees
- The candidates should be able to monitor, report, and interact with detainees and able to liaise with internal stakeholders, non-government organizations, correctional partners, and contractors
- The candidates should be able to review and revise internal detention procedures and able to assist with oversight and monitoring of contracts
- The candidates should be able to administer the Detentions program and conduct activities related to operating an Immigration Holding Centre (IHC)
- The candidates should be able to be responsible for a variety of different duties including administrative tasks, contract monitoring and reporting, detainee case management, detainee intervention, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders
