Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a High School Diploma, or equivalent such as PASS or GED
Experience: Candidates should have two (2) years corrections facility experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be aware that this position is highly sensitive, therefore, they must undergo a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have successfully completed Corrections Career Development (JIBC 1, 2, 3) or an equivalent program
- The candidates should possess current First Aid and CPR certification
- The candidates should hold a Class 5 driver’s license
- The candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills
- The candidates should have knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and proficiency in Inuktut
- The candidates should have experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide direction & oversight to Correctional Caseworkers in the management of client case files, program identification, and release planning
- The candidates should be able to ensure adherence to restorative practices and established guidelines & principles for the safe and secure custody of clients, while encouraging rehabilitation and reintegration by assisting them with their programming needs
- The candidates should be able to work with clients to help problem solve issues that arise from their incarceration, lead the facility’s monthly remission awards process, and assist in release planning and community consultation for all Temporary Releases
- The candidates should be able to review Client Risk Needs Assessments, Monthly Progress Reports, Remand Custody Reports, Client Release Plans, and Block Summaries for completeness
- The candidates should be able to assist staff in liaising with various community organizations for the coordination of client temporary absence and early release considerations
- The candidates should be able to evaluate the implementation of the case plan and progress of clients and provide input on individual case plans taking place at the institution
- The candidates should be able to receive training to facilitate programs for clients in the Correctional facility, which can include alternatives to violence, substance abuse, parenting, grief & loss
- The candidates should be able to act as a liaison with provincial and federal counterparts as well as non-profit societies, maintaining current knowledge of community resources such as nurses, social workers, mental health specialists, and community justice committees
