Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have successful completion of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing program
Experience: Candidates should have gerontology experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be regularly capable of physical exertion and handling, moving, pushing, or pulling objects weighing between 10 – 15 lbs, and occasionally required to support, lift, or move patients/objects up to 30 lbs
- The candidates should be regularly required to work in awkward cramped positions (bending/kneeling/stretching) and constantly standing and moving about
- The candidates should regularly push and pull objects using light to medium forces and be able to stand and walk
- The candidates should regularly require visual concentration to give medications, read orders/referrals, patients’ charts/documents, observe and treat patients combined with time pressures and deadlines
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess current licensure with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CLPNNL)
- The candidates should hold current BLS certification and demonstrated initiative and the ability to work independently
- The candidates should have knowledge of seniors’ issues and support best practices in gerontological care
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to deal effectively with end-of-life issues and exhibit demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills
- The candidates should have a demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships
- The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide quality nursing care to residents by assisting in their daily living activities, providing personal care, and promoting independent living
- The candidates should be able to meet the resident’s physical, social, and spiritual needs through partnerships with the resident, the resident’s family, and other members of the interprofessional team
- The candidates should be able to plan and supervise care within their scope of practice
- The candidates should be able to provide support and direction to Personal Care Attendants
- The candidates should be able to monitor resident outcomes and intervene if necessary
- The candidates should be able to reassess and adjust the plan of care or resident assignment as needed, in consultation with the Registered Nurse
- The candidates should be able to work in a complex long-term care setting with diverse resident needs, including chronic illness, functional and cognitive impairments, frail or elderly adults, individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, and/or individuals with mental illness
- The candidates should be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment with frequent contact with the public, residents, and other health professionals
