Requirements:

Education: Candidates should have currently enrolled in, and having completed, at least one year of a post-secondary educational degree program in Urban Planning or in Geography
Experience: Candidates should have experience with collecting and analyzing census and land use data
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines
- The candidates should have the ability to collect, maintain, verify, and analyze data
- The candidates should be willing to travel extensively throughout the City of Toronto and able to work cooperatively in a team environment
- The candidates should have the ability to carry a tablet computer with a weight of 2.5 kg for daily field survey work over many weeks
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be currently enrolled in, and have completed at least one year of a post-secondary educational degree program in GIS or Environmental Studies with an emphasis on urban and/or regional planning
- The candidates should have experience with using computers, preferably in a Windows environment
- The candidates should have experience in working with others and setting priorities to achieve team objectives
- The candidates should possess highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with staff and clients in an efficient and diplomatic manner, both in person and over the phone
- The candidates should have strong problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to participate in field surveys by gathering data from thousands of business establishments, buildings, and properties in the City of Toronto for use in urban planning research and policy development, within the context of municipal planning and current planning issues in Ontario
- The candidates should be able to independently visit places of employment and other sites in all parts of the City, determine and record various characteristics such as business name, number of employees, land use, employment activity, and development and construction characteristics
- The candidates should be able to collect, enter, and maintain data into the employment and land use databases using a tablet computer and GIS software in the field and in the office, edit and verify material, and conduct on-site and telephone call-backs when necessary
- The candidates should be able to precisely follow procedures and work accurately and efficiently within strict time-frames, and keep supervisors proactively advised of the status of the assigned work
- The candidates should be able to work independently and as a member of a team to complete assigned tasks and collaborate with others to complete the project on schedule
- The candidates should be able to assist with packing, loading, lifting, moving, delivering, and unpacking supplies, and displays
- The candidates should be able to assist others with drafting documents, bulletins, and data analysis and able to assist in general office duties as required
- The candidates should be able to answer calls, provide general information, take messages, and direct inquiries to appropriate staff to answer questions/handle requests
