Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12 (Technical program) in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent
Experience: Candidates should have supervisory experience in the transit/railroad area and/or related field would be an asset

- The candidates should have a working knowledge of relevant government legislation, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act (Industrial and Construction), and other applicable regulations
- The candidates should have a working knowledge of computers and relevant computerized applications such as word processing, database, and scheduling software
- The candidates should have good mathematical, reading, writing, and blueprint comprehension skills
- The candidates should demonstrate sound judgment, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- The candidates should possess a valid class “G” Province of Ontario Driver’s License
- The candidates should utilize their own automobile when inspecting work locations
- The candidates should attend and successfully complete various supervisory, safety, and technical training programs related to the section and Track Maintenance
- The candidates should have or quickly acquire a thorough knowledge of the Local 113 Collective Agreement, Seniority Regulations and Commission, Branch and Departmental policies, procedures, and programs related to the work performed
- The candidates should have familiarity with the Track Section’s Maintenance of Way Information System (MOWIS)
- The candidates should undergo the Training Department’s instruction to obtain a class DZ license and attain certification for the operation of various track maintenance equipment
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to supervise the work performed by hourly-rated employees in the Subway Track section involving the rehabilitation, maintenance, and construction of all subway track-related work
- The candidates should be able to assist the Foreperson in the coordination, planning, and completion of track work
- The candidates should be able to supervise the work performed by external contractors
- The candidates should be able to complete daily job briefings and work plans, reviewing them in detail with hourly-rated employees to ensure all aspects and hazards associated with the work are fully understood
- The candidates should be able to conduct regular safety talks with hourly-rated employees
- The candidates should be able to assist the Foreperson with administrative duties such as completion of the daily journal, timekeeping, record-keeping, signing stock requisitions, purchase requisitions, vacation/bereavement requests, injury investigations, etc.
- The candidates should be able to maintain discipline and promote harmony in the section
- The candidates should be able to ensure that employees under their direct supervision are familiar with and comply with the policies and practices of the TTC regarding rules, regulations, and safe working practices. They should ensure employees are properly trained in all aspects of the work and in the operation of any new/modified equipment, providing guidance, advice, and on-the-job training as needed
- The candidates should be able to investigate various injuries, accidents, incidents, or other problems that may arise, and initiate corrective action or make recommendations
- The candidates should be able to ensure that rules and regulations in the union agreement, Commission and Departmental policies, and government legislation (human rights, labor relations, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.) are satisfied and applied fairly and consistently
- The candidates should be able to participate in TTC health and safety programs, administer first aid or CPR to employees, or request further medical help through the Transit Control Centre if required
- The candidates should be able to recommend and implement new improvements to equipment and/or methods of work
- The candidates should be able to supervise the work of external suppliers and contractors to ensure compliance with TTC guidelines
- The candidates should be able to assist the Foreperson with the monitoring and reporting of project status and advise of problems or delays, ensuring that work plans and schedules prepared by the Supervisor or Superintendent are maintained and all work is completed in a safe manner, in accordance with standard practices and procedures
- The candidates should be able to conduct traction power cuts as required
- The candidates should be able to ensure construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the various TTC facilities meet established engineering, safety, and cleanliness standards
- The candidates should be able to direct, supervise, and provide on-the-job training of hourly-rated employees in the performance of track rehabilitation, maintenance, and construction duties
- The candidates should be able to operate various track maintenance equipment
- The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as assigned
