ASW is seeking a hardworking, innovative, and collaborative Vineyard Manager with a proven record in viticulture management. This individual will lead our vineyard operations, ensuring excellence in production, safety, and sustainability while upholding our cherished traditions.
*Job Responsibilities and Requirements:*
*? Field Operations & Vineyard Management:*
? Work alongside the vineyard crew to perform key viticultural tasks such as executing
spraying programs, pruning, thinning, tying, planting, replanting, and harvesting.
? Oversee the planting of grapevines, including selecting appropriate rootstocks, ensuring correct planting depth and spacing, and preparing soil to optimize vine health.
? Manage the application of pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides in accordance with safe viticultural practices and integrated disease management strategies.
? Assess and manage soil health by incorporating necessary nutrients or amendments and implementing effective soil conservation practices.
*? Harvest & Quality Control:*
? Supervise grape picking, ensuring harvest occurs at the peak of ripeness and quality in consultation with the winemaker.
? Liaise with the winemaker to review vineyard performance, determine pruning
strategies, evaluate practices affecting yield and fruit quality, and estimate annual
harvest yields.
*? Equipment & Infrastructure Oversight:*
? Ensure the proper maintenance and repair of vineyard equipment, trellises, fencing, and other infrastructure.
? Maintain an orderly inventory of vineyard equipment and tools.
*? Financial & Record-Keeping Responsibilities:*
? Manage the vineyard budget with a focus on cost control and efficient resource
allocation.
? Keep detailed records of vineyard operations?including planting dates, pruning
schedules, pest and disease management, harvest data, spray records, and nutrition
plans?in compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
*? Team Leadership & Safety:*
? Supervise, evaluate, and provide developmental planning for vineyard personnel,
fostering a positive and productive work environment.
? Monitor progress in the field and report observations and recommendations to senior management and the winemaker.
? Ensure a safe working environment by upholding all safety protocols and maintaining
compliance with regulatory standards.
*? Hospitality & Additional Duties:*
? Maintain the vineyard as a hospitality asset by preparing for special events and
conducting vineyard tours as required.
? Assist with winemaking duties or oversee the delegation of related tasks when needed.
*Skills and Qualifications:*
*? Viticultural Expertise:*
? In-depth understanding of viticulture practices, including the management of various grape varieties, and their suitability for our vineyard?s climate, topography, and unique terroir.
? Familiarity with common grapevine pests and diseases, and experience implementing
integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
*? Leadership and Communication:*
? Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage both experienced and new team
members effectively.
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of collaborating with a
diverse team and external partners.
? Strong networking and relationship-building skills.
*? Problem Solving and Strategic Planning:*
? Demonstrated ability to resolve challenges such as weather-related issues and crop
diseases.
? Capacity to develop and implement strategies that mitigate stress and pressure
associated with vineyard management.
*? Technical Proficiency:*
? Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and the ability to generate,
