Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Diploma in Natural Resources, Heavy Equipment, Geomatics, or an Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be willing to travel from Happy Valley-Goose Bay to coastal areas of Labrador alone via snowmobile
  • The candidates should be willing to work in a cold climate and the ability to analyze, assess, and draft trail equipment reports
  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently and the ability to effectively exchange information

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience with Labrador’s Government-managed winter trail system
  • The candidates should have experience with the regulations and practices utilized in the operation of snowmobile and grooming equipment, and inspection of trailways
  • The candidates should have experience with GPS mapping procedures and interpretation and completed an Emergency First Aid Certificate and Wilderness and Remote First Aid Certificate
  • The candidates should have completed a Snowmobile Operators Course and knowledge of snowmobiling and grooming safety, operations, and machinery
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Labrador’s isolated communities and geography
  • The candidates should have knowledge of GPS mapping procedures and interpretation and proficiency with MS operating systems
  • The candidates should have proficiency with Garmin in Reach and provide proof of a valid Class 5 Driver’s license and provide a recent and satisfactory driver’s abstract

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Director of Labrador Affairs and monitor activities related to the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the Labrador Transportation Grooming Subsidy (LTGS) trail system
  • The candidates should be able to direct and participate in various trail inspection activities, including physical trail inspections and maintenance of snowmobiles and equipment used for inspections
  • The candidates should be able to collect and review groomer operation and maintenance reports to ensure compliance with grooming standards
  • The candidates should be able to create positive relationships with service providers and groomer operators, responding to enquiries related to trail maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to promote safe grooming operations and enforce trail grooming specifications to maintain a safe winter trail system
  • The candidates should be able to provide weekly reports on grooming operations and oversee trail upgrades, making recommendations on future trail requirements
  • The candidates should be able to travel via snowmobile throughout the LTGS trails and have knowledge of GPS mapping procedures
