Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of completed Grade 10
Experience: Candidates should have six years of lived experience in the NWT providing support in community, shelter, wellness, and correctional or mental health settings
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to maintain calm, exhibiting controlled and professional behavior
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have knowledge of and the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of policies, procedures, and protocols related to the infection and prevention of transmission
- The candidates should have knowledge of the recovery model and trauma-informed practices
- The candidates should have knowledge of and the ability to acquire knowledge of harm reduction philosophy
- The candidates should have the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of case management for Shelter Users
- The candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills as well as verbal and listening communication skills
- The candidates should have customer service and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to listen and respond positively in all Shelter User situations
- The candidates should be able to make rational decisions where management advice is not immediately available
- The candidates should have and have equivalent levels of education and experience and provide proof of immunization in keeping with current public health practices
- The candidates should be trained or willing to be trained in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Non-Violent Intervention (NVI), and First Aid-Administering Naloxone
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to ensure all persons entering the facility are screened and oriented, conduct Shelter User intake interviews and enter data and liaise with community support services and other external agencies
- The candidates should be able to organize, prepare, and service meals for client and monitor the shelter site for safety and adherence to behavioral expectations
- The candidates should be able to ensure Shelter Users receive person-centered, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed services, participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, program planning, and other activities
- The candidates should be able to plan, organize, and implement program-specific activities for Shelter Users or groups, ensure the environment is supportive and safe for Shelter Users and staff
- The candidates should be able to ensure that the stock of shelter supplies and equipment is adequate and facilitate the ordering of supplies and equipment repairs, promptly address any potential or actual conflict with Shelter Users using de-escalation techniques
- The candidates should be able to build rapport with Shelter Users and assist in the de-escalation of potentially violent situations using effective non-physical strategies
- The candidates should be able to monitor the activities of Shelter Users and maintain availability for personal, practical, and morale support
- The candidates should be able to address behavioral issues in a constructive and non-threatening manner, identify alternative approaches and actions, make regular surveillance checks of all areas in the designated shelter space
- The candidates should be able to maintain a log of all incidents and report any issues or areas of concern immediately to the Supervisor, Shelter Services, perform wellness checks on Shelter Users, support Shelter User intake and discharge
