Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience working as a Laboratory Technician using a broad range of experimental methods
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to lift objects of up to 25kg
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a laboratory setting, involving standing and performing experiments
- The candidates should be able to exhibit the capability of handling laboratory equipment and materials
- The candidates should be able to feel comfortable with detailed and precise work required in a laboratory environment
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have a strong scientific and hands-on technical background in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology experiments and concepts
- The candidates should demonstrate familiarity with health and safety regulations and have experience applying lab safety and protocol procedures, including biological waste disposal and Risk Group 2 procedures
- The candidates should have experience with cell/tissue culture work involving mammalian cell lines and worm husbandry
- The candidates should possess experience working with protein/DNA, ELISA, gel electrophoresis, microscopes, yeast, and bacterial organisms
- The candidates should have experience preparing solutions for Molecular Genetics and Microbiology
- The candidates should exhibit a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
- The candidates must be capable of operating and calibrating laboratory equipment used in teaching labs
- The candidates should be solid team players with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, both oral and written
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide laboratory support/services by setting up lab/workshops according to research/course schedules and lab set up requirements
- The candidates should be able to provide detailed explanations and demonstrate procedures to students and/or employees on lab techniques, experimental procedures, and protocols, with an emphasis on Molecular Genetics and Microbiology courses
- The candidates should be able to validate experiments and assist with scientific documentation for the MedYSP (Youth Summer Program), disciplines include; Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology & Toxicology, and Molecular Genetics
- The candidates should be able to apply established standards when preparing routine samples for experiments, collecting experimental data, verifying results, and passing on findings
- The candidates should be able to maintain inventory of glass and dishware, workstations, chemicals, and/or apparatus within the lab, including troubleshooting routine equipment repairs and resolving issues with malfunctioning equipment
- The candidates should be able to provide general lab maintenance by preparing, assembling, and setting up material, equipment, and supplies
- The candidates should be able to ensure safe handling of specialized lab equipment and materials and pay close attention to occupational safety precautions
